Glycogen, purified from oysters, is an inert carrier or co-precipitant in DNA and RNA purification. Glycogen, unlike tRNA and other sonicated DNA which introduce exogenous nucleic acids to the sample, is a preferred co-precipitant because it less likely to interfere with the downstream applications.
